FlyPlay preview.6: display scaling, live captions and recording
November 3, 2026
FlyPlay is building a native AirPlay receiver for Windows. Screen mirroring and audio reception are free; cloud transcription, translated captions and recording are optional extensions. This is a development preview. Public downloads and paid products are not available yet.
Display scaling on high DPI screens
At 150% Windows scaling, the receiver video window was scaled down again, leaving the image near the top left. The receiver and WinUI host now use Per-Monitor V2 awareness and explicitly update the render area. Four landscape, portrait and window-size regressions passed with both software and hardware decoding. An updated iPad device check is still pending.
Live transcription and translation tested against the real model
The Singapore Qwen live translation service processed roughly nine seconds of locally generated English test speech and returned final English text with a linked Chinese translation. This exposed and fixed a Qwen3.8 compatibility issue with input-audio events.
Native Windows sign-in and the backend quote are verified. The current development rate is 20 points per 30 seconds. Starting prepays the first segment; partial segments count as complete segments. A session stops at its confirmed budget. Requesting a quote does not debit points. The provider diagnostic used no customer credits or actual mirrored audio.
Record mirrored video, optionally with captions
Recording takes data from the mirrored video and audio pipeline. It does not capture the Windows desktop, microphone or other system audio. A successful hardware encoder probe selects 1080p60; software fallback uses 720p30. A fixed canvas handles sender rotation.
Automated checks cover NVIDIA encoding, sound and silence, rotation, software encoding and subtitle pixels. Every generated MP4 was decoded to completion. Chinese paths containing spaces and refusal to overwrite existing files were also checked. Failed finalization retains a partial file and is not reported as saved.
Recording requires a valid production Pro entitlement returned by AppBoss. Credits and test membership do not unlock it. The monthly Pro membership and credit packs are drafts only and cannot be purchased yet. TXT, SRT and WebVTT exports can be selected independently in the live caption interface.
Checks still pending
- Apple device sound, synchronization, audio-only reception and contention between senders.
- Actual device audio through captions, debit settlement and recording with a valid membership.
- A clean Windows 10 environment, other GPUs, sustained stability and resource measurements.
- Payment integration, distribution materials and public downloads.
Basic reception needs no account or internet, only the same local network. Cloud captions upload sender audio only after the user explicitly starts a session.
